22 Powerful Scriptures to Pray Over Your Home

Praying over our homes is important.  Whether you’re moving into a new home or want God to bless the home you’ve been living in for decades, praying over your home can shift the spiritual atmosphere surrounding you.

Praying scripture over our home is a way of consecrating our innermost sanctuaries to the Lord.  We can pray for God’s presence to dwell among us and pray that our homes will be safe havens for others.

When we dedicate our homes to the Lord in these ways, God responds.  He makes his face shine upon us and makes our homes sanctuaries of peace and joy.

One of the best ways to pray over our homes is by using Scripture to guide our prayers.

Scriptures to Pray Over Your Home

Praying Scripture aligns our hearts with God’s heart.  When we pray Scripture over our homes, we align ourselves with God’s perspective and pray for God’s will to be done in our homes.

Praying Scripture over our homes in the authority of Jesus’ name also combats demonic forces of evil.  By praying God’s Word, we promote peace, love, healing, and gospel-centered living within the walls of our homes.

Let’s examine 22 Scriptures to pray over our homes.

Isaiah 32:18

“My people will abide in a peaceful habitation, in secure dwellings, and in quiet resting places.” Isaiah 32:18 ESV

Our homes need to be secure and quiet resting places for us.  They need to be places where we can get away from the demands of the world and relax.

Isaiah’s words guide us in praying for peace, security, quiet, and rest within the walls of our homes.

Joshua 24:15

“And if it is evil in your eyes to serve the Lord, choose this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your fathers served in the region beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites in whose land you dwell. But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.” Joshua 24:15 ESV

Before they settled into the Promised Land, Joshua challenged the Israelites to choose to serve God.  In the same way, we can pray that the people who live within our homes will honor and serve the Lord.

Numbers 6 24-26

Numbers 6:24-26

“The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make his face to shine upon you and be gracious to you; the Lord lift up his countenance upon you and give you peace.” Numbers 6:24-26 ESV

The Aaronic blessing asks God to bestow goodness and favor, impart his joyful presence, and give peace to his people.  Praying for the Lord’s presence to permeate our homes is a powerful prayer.

When God’s presence overshadows our homes, all who enter have the opportunity to encounter the Living God!

Proverbs 2:3-4

“By wisdom a house is built, and by understanding it is established; by knowledge the rooms are filled with all precious and pleasant riches.” Proverbs 2:3-4 ESV

Pray that wisdom, knowledge, and understanding will fill your home.  Just as Solomon prayed for wisdom, ask God to impart his wisdom to all who enter your home.

1 Samuel 25:6

“And thus you shall greet him: ‘Peace be to you, and peace be to your house, and peace be to all that you have.’” 1 Samuel 25:6 ESV

God wants to lead us into his peace.  What better place to begin than within the walls of our homes?

Pray that your home will be covered with peace, that it will be a place free from dissension and strife, and that all who enter will experience the peace of Christ.

Isaiah 26:3

“You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you.” Isaiah 26:3 ESV

Perfect peace comes from trusting God.  If we want to dwell in peaceful homes, trusting God must be our firm foundation.  Pray over your home by asking God to help your family grow to trust him more.

Isaiah 41:10

“Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” Isaiah 41:10 ESV

God does not want us to live in fear.  He promises to strengthen, help, and uphold us.  Pray that God will become the source of strength for everyone in your home as you learn to rest in his provision and protection.

Psalm 37:4

“Delight yourself in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart.” Psalm 37:4 ESV

Pray that everyone in your home will learn to find delight in the Lord.  When we are delighted in the Lord, we learn to be content regardless of our circumstances.  Even if our homes aren’t perfect, we find true contentment in Christ.

Psalm 91 1-2

Psalm 91:1-2

“He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will abide in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say to the Lord, ‘My refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.’” Psalm 91:1-2 ESV

God wants to be the dwelling place and shelter for his children.  Pray that your home will be a safe fortress—a place for resting in the Lord and finding reprieve from the world.

Proverbs 22:6

“Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it.” Proverbs 22:6 ESV

Pray that your home will be a place where young people are trained to know and follow the Lord.  Even if you don’t have young children, pray that the Lord will use your home as a space where younger people seek his wisdom, encounter his love, and grow in faith.

Proverbs 15:6

“In the house of the righteous there is much treasure, but trouble befalls the income of the wicked.” Proverbs 15:6 ESV

When we live with integrity, God blesses us.  Pray that your house will be a place where integrity reigns, righteous behavior is the norm, and sin cannot prevail.  Pray that no one who lives within the walls of your home will be able to comfortably pursue sin without experiencing the conviction of the Holy Spirit.

1 Chronicles 16:11

“Seek the Lord and his strength; seek his presence continually!” 1 Chronicles 16:11 ESV

Pray that those who enter your home will seek the presence of God.  God wants to empower those who seek him, and he is waiting to empower those who live within the walls of your home as well as those who visit.

Zephaniah 3:17

“The Lord your God is in your midst, a mighty one who will save; he will rejoice over you with gladness; he will quiet you by his love; he will exult over you with loud singing.” Zephaniah 3:17 ESV

Our lives are transformed when we encounter the joy of the Lord.  God loves us, and he enjoys spending time with us.  Pray that all who enter your home will have a sense of the joy the Lord feels as he sings over them.

Proverbs 3:3-4

“Let not steadfast love and faithfulness forsake you; bind them around your neck; write them on the tablet of your heart. So you will find favor and good success in the sight of God and man.” Proverbs 3:3-4 ESV

Pray that love and faithfulness will fill your home.  Pray for peace to prevail in family relationships, and pray that God’s favor and success will fall upon your home and your family.

Matthew 6 33

Matthew 6:33

“But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.” Matthew 6:33 ESV

It’s easy to look around our homes and notice everything that’s broken, outdated, and lacking.  When you catch yourself criticizing your home, remind yourself to seek God’s kingdom.  He will provide for all of your needs.

Hebrews 13:2

“Do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers, for thereby some have entertained angels unawares.” Hebrews 13:2 ESV

Pray that your home will be a space where strangers and guests feel safe.  More than creating a perfect environment, hospitality is the gift of making people feel safe and comfortable.  When people feel safe in our homes, their hearts open wide to receive the love of God.

Perhaps you will one day entertain angels without knowing it.

1 Peter 4:8

“Above all, keep loving one another earnestly, since love covers a multitude of sins.” 1 Peter 4:8 ESV

When living within the same walls, it’s easy for annoyance and irritation to take over.  Pray that love will prevail in your home and that this love will cover offense, annoyance, and even sin.

Romans 12:10

“Love one another with brotherly affection. Outdo one another in showing honor.” Romans 12:10 ESV

Colossians 3:23

“Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men.” Colossians 3:23 ESV

Colossians 3:13

“Bearing with one another and, if one has a complaint against another, forgiving each other; as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive.” Colossians 3:13 ESV

Pray that your home will be a place of forgiveness.  Pray against grudges and bitterness, and pray that God will bless your home as you aim to love one another and forgive as Christ forgave you.

Ephesians 1:22

“And he put all things under his feet and gave him as head over all things.” Ephesians 1:22 ESV

Lastly, pray that the authority of Jesus will rule and reign in your home.  Pray that any spirits who do not submit to and honor Christ as Lord will leave and go wherever Jesus sends them.  This prayer can change the atmosphere of your home forever.

This is a good way to pray when moving into a new home or if you sense spiritual oppression in your current home.  Walk through each room and pray for any spirits who do not submit to Jesus’ authority to leave in Jesus’ name.
