The Importance of Praying for Your Pastor

While many believe the pastor’s job is a part-time position, this is not true for those dedicated to God’s teachings in the Bible. It is extremely important that members take the pastoral position of the church seriously and fervently pray for their pastor. A pastor is a leader of the local church and is held to a higher standard by God according to James 3:1 NIV

Praying for Pastors Scriptures

The Bible guides us on how we should pray for our pastors. In Hebrews 10:24-25 NIV, we must not give up meeting together or assembling, instead, we should encourage one another in love and good works.

And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching. Hebrews 10:24-25 NIV

This is a powerful statement; if we gather together and pray for our pastor, we will help build a wall against the evil forces pushing demonically against our pastor.

For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them. Matthew 18:20

Peter, one of the first preachers of the New Testament, was put in prison for preaching the gospel. Acts 12:5 tells us that the body of the church prayed without ceasing for Peter. This is a great example of why we, as the body of Christ, should be praying incessantly for our spiritual leaders.

So Peter was kept in prison, but the church was earnestly praying to God for him.

Another famous preacher in the New Testament, Paul, pleads with us in 1 Thessalonians 5:25, telling his congregation to pray for them.

Brothers and sisters, pray for us.

Satan knows that if pastors speak false doctrine in the church, his job will be much easier. If your preacher is speaking the truth, the members of the church will be stronger and blessed by God, the almighty. If the congregation is not praying for the pastor, they are not following the Bible’s commandments.

Prayers for Pastors Strength

A pastor must be strong and courageous as it’s spelled out clearly in Joshua 1:9. Pray to God that your leader has the strength and courage to fight the daily battle of temptation and trials set before him.

Lord, I pray for our spiritual leader, remind him daily that You are with him to grant strength and courage during stressful or trying times in his life. Build a hedge of protection around him to keep him from the discouragement of everyday circumstances. Amen.

Warfare Prayer for Pastor

We’re in a war that we can’t see, a spiritual battle. Ephesians 6:12 reminds us that we are in a battle with spiritual forces, not in a physical struggle. We may not see it, The enemy, the dark force, wants us defeated by tempting us with fear, worry, and anxiety.

Almighty God, bathe our pastor with the armor of God as he battles the evil forces lurking around us in the spiritual world that we can’t see, but know it’s there according to your precious Word. In Jesus Name, Amen.

Prayer for Pastors and Leaders

We should remember to pray for our pastors and pray for the church leaders. They have a higher calling, which also means more responsibility and accountability.

Pastors and church leaders must make critical decisions that typically face criticism from the congregation. Plus, the huge burden of counseling grieving wives, cheating spouses, and sinful lifestyles weigh on the authority of the church.

Heavenly Father, we pray for our spiritual leaders in the church that have a huge weight on their shoulders that can’t be carried without your help. Remove any stress, fear, or anxiety and remind those in authority to trust You fully. Amen.

Prayer for Pastor’s Wife

A pastor’s wife’s life can get very lonely. Friendship is critical for a pastor’s wife, yet, many feel they can’t hold to the same biblical standards and avoid close friendships with the clergy’s spouse.

A pastor’s wife is also very busy in the church whether it’s counseling, setting up a meal train, or running a Bible Study. They are just as important as the pastor, but sometimes get overlooked since they are mostly behind the scenes.

Gracious Almighty, we ask for your guidance and direction as members of the church to minister physically and spiritually unto our pastor’s wife. Show us how we can be encouraging, friendly, and loving to our faithful pastor’s wife. In Jesus Name, Amen.

Prayer for Pastor and Family

God gave us a shepherd according to Jeremiah 3:15 who will feed us with knowledge and understanding. A pastor’s family also sacrifices their time and lives to minister unto the body of Christ. Praying for his family will strengthen the bond between a preacher and his congregation.

Faithful Father, we thank you for our pastor’s family. Please give them peace and refreshment during times of struggles and stressful situations in the body of the church. Bless them in a mighty way with your amazing gifts of love and grace. In Jesus Name, Amen.

Prayer for Pastor Appreciation

We should continue to thank God for our pastor and also ask God to help us find ways to show appreciation for a pastor’s efforts and hard work in the church.

A pastor should be looking to the Lord for blessings, yet, the congregation can lift a preacher’s spirits with love and appreciation gifts whether it’s an encouraging word, a weekend away, or a homemade meal.

Lord, help the congregation to identify ways of serving the pastor with appreciation and love for his dedication and efforts. Help us show our gratitude for his faithful in serving the church. In Jesus Name, Amen.

Prayer for Pastor Before Sermon

A pastor fervently prays that his sermons touch the heart of the unsaved, a lonely person, or a troubled soul struggling to make sense of life.

Let’s pray for our pastor that his message resonates with his congregation who need a perfect sermon tailored just for them.

Jehovah God, we pray our pastor’s message has your stamp of approval and resonates perfectly with those who are weak, poor in spirit, or in need of a Savior, your Son who died for all of our sins. In Jesus Name, Amen.

I am hopeful these ways to pray for your Pastor will encourage you on a daily or weekly basis to ask God for his protection over your leaders.

As the body of Christ, we have the responsibility to encourage, edify, and minister unto the anointed ones for refreshment and focus on their mission — the Good News Commission.

These powerful prayers will not only build your pastor and his family but also bless you and your church in an extraordinary way.
