How Can We Pray After a Miscarriage

How can we pray after a miscarriage? The question is, how can we not pray after a miscarriage?

Knowing and trusting in our loving, compassionate Father in heaven, gives us strength for any situation. His grace is sufficient and we receive the grace we need to endure whatever situation we’re in.

After a miscarriage, we pray through tears. We can pray through our grief and loss as we hold on to the One who loves us. We pray because God is our Rock and He blesses us with love and peace.

If we experience difficulty in lifting our voices in prayer, we can depend on the Holy Spirit to intercede on our behalf. God knows our hearts and He knows the pain we’re experiencing.

Some specific ways we can pray after a miscarriage include:

  • We can pray for healing after a miscarriage.
  • We can pray for the mom’s health after a miscarriage.
  • We can pray for the loss of life after a miscarriage.
  • We can pray that the mother doesn’t give up hope after a miscarriage.

Miscarriage Scripture

God’s Word is living and effective as it speaks to us in the midst of our circumstances. The Bible is a light in every season of our lives; especially after a miscarriage.

The Spirit specifically reminds us of Scripture to comfort us in times of loss and grief. Praying through Scripture is an encouraging reminder of God’s love and plans for us and others.

Below are a few verses to pray over anyone who may be experiencing this difficult season.

  •  But God proves his own love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us (Rom. 5:8, CSB).
  •  For God loved the world in this way: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life (Jn. 3:16, CSB).
  • The Lord is near the brokenhearted; he saves those crushed in spirit (Ps. 34:18, CSB).
  • The Lord is good to those who wait for him, to the person who seeks him (Lam. 3:25, CSB)
  • I am certain that I will see the Lord’s goodness
  • in the land of the living. Wait for the Lord; be strong, and let your heart be courageous. Wait for the Lord (Ps. 37:13-14, CSB).
  • Rejoice with those who rejoice; weep with those who weep (Rom. 12:15, CSB).
  • Let us hold on to the confession of our hope without wavering, since he who promised is faithful (Heb. 10:23, CSB).
  • But look, the Lord keeps his eye on those who fear him—those who depend on his faithful love (Ps. 33:18, CSB).
  • May your faithful love rest on us, Lord, for we put our hope in you (Ps. 33:22, CSB).
  •  We know that all things work together for the good of those who love God, who are called according to his purpose (Rom. 8:28, CSB).
  • Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and the God of all comfort. He comforts us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any kind of affliction, through the comfort we ourselves receive from God (2 Cor. 1:3-4, CSB).

Miscarriage Prayers

The birth of a child is a blessing and the loss of that blessing is heart-shattering. In my experience, few people know how to provide comfort to those who have suffered from a miscarriage.

After my third loss, my sister-in-law offered to be a surrogate mother. Her heart was in the right place, but the reminder of her easy, healthy pregnancies didn’t ease the pain of my loss.

Family members and friends have the desire to help, but they don’t always know what to say.

Here are just a few example miscarriage prayers you can use to get started.

Miscarriage Prayer

If you don’t know what to say, that is okay – just pray for them! Prayer warriors are definitely needed during this painful season.

Prayer for Miscarriage Prevention

For any woman who is pregnant, there is always the fear of the baby not making it to term.

We know that the future of the unborn child is ultimately in God’s hands but we can also pray and ask God to bring this new life into the world.

Father God, You are the giver of life. Thank You for Your love and protection. Thank You for this baby. Please protect the baby while he or she is growing inside the womb.

Keep the placenta strong and healthy and provide room for the baby to grow as needed. Father, we ask that this baby would be carried to full term and would be born healthy and strong. In the Name of Jesus, we pray. Amen.

Miscarriage Prayer

As you pray for the pregnancies of your family members, friends or yourself remember to pray for the prevention of miscarriage.

Prayer for Miscarriage Mother

It’s important to recognize the power of prayer when a mother is suffering from a miscarriage.

Some mothers feel guilty after a miscarriage. She may consider her activities and wonder if she somehow caused it.

Some may even worry about the smallest things, such as sleeping in the wrong position or exercising. Consider the feelings this mother is wrestling with as you spend time in prayer for her.

Father God, You are love and You are our Comforter. You are the God who sees us and You know the anguish of this precious mother.

Bring her comfort as she is grieving. We weep with her as she has suffered this great loss. Father, bless her with peace and remove any guilt or worry that she may be experiencing as a result of this loss.

Bring people into her life who understand what she is going through and who can lift her up during this difficult time. Bless her with people who offer her comfort and support.

Father, reveal Your amazing love to her and strengthen her faith. Heal her physically and spiritually, Lord. In Your timing, we ask You to give her the desire of her heart and bless her with a child. In Jesus’ Name, we pray. Amen.

Miscarriage Prayer

This mother needs to be lifted up to our Savior for comfort and support. She needs to be reminded of how much God loves her and of how much you love her.

Prayer for Healing After a Miscarriage

There is a great deal of healing that needs to occur after a miscarriage. There is physical healing as the mother’s body recovers from the loss of the baby.

Surgical procedures are often needed to help facilitate physical healing. Emotional healing is often challenging as the family was invested emotionally in this young life.

The parents may have already purchased a special stuffed animal or piece of clothing and may have even decided on the baby’s name.

As with any loss, spiritual healing may also be needed. During times of suffering, we’re reminded that bad things happen to good people and we may question God and His plans.

I prayed non-stop for healing when the doctor suspected I was miscarrying. I had enormous faith and expected God to heal my body and my baby. Yet, I miscarried my baby.

I needed spiritual healing because God didn’t answer my prayers in the way that I had hoped.

Father God, You are the Creator of life and You are our Healer. Father, physically heal this mother and restore her physical strength.

Prepare her womb for future children, Lord. Pour Your Spirit on this family and heal their broken hearts. With every tear, bless them with unity.

Father, hold them in Your hands and give them Your peace that surpasses all understanding. Strengthen their faith, Lord, and draw them near to Yourself.

Remind them of Your goodness and love. Bless them with mercy. Father, remove any uneasiness or concern about what this loss means for the future.

Father, we trust You and thank You for healing Your children. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Prayer for the Miscarried Baby

We don’t always know how to pray for the miscarried baby but know God is good and He is in control.

Father God, You are loving and kind; there is so much we don’t understand, but we know You are good and that Your plans are good.

Thank you for this precious baby who was created in Your image. While this young life was short-lived, we praise You for the joy and love that this baby brought.

Father, we thank You that this sweet baby has always been in Your caring hands. Lord, we thank You that this baby has not been separated from You.

In Your great care, You have kept this little one from suffering on earth and we praise You for that. Thank You for keeping this baby with You. In the name of Jesus, we pray, Amen.

Miscarriage Prayer

Our Heavenly Father knows this baby and He cares for this baby. We can trust God’s lovingkindness and let His Holy Spirit lead as we lift the baby up in prayer.

Prayer of Comfort for Miscarriage

God is near and He desires to bring comfort to those struggling with miscarriage.

Father God, thank You for Your unfailing love. Thank You for Your supernatural comfort that is enveloped in Your grace.

Father, comfort this mother and heal her broken heart. Lord, comfort this family in this time of loss. Give them the assurance of Your presence and the perfect peace that comes from You.

Wrap Your loving arms around them and surround them with Your lovingkindness. Amen.

Miscarriage Prayer for a Friend

As previously mentioned, it’s important to know how to comfort, but we often don’t know what to say or do. The most comforting thing we can do is to pray for and over the person.

Miscarriage Prayer for a Friend

After miscarrying three babies, I was finally pregnant with my second daughter. About two months later, my best friend became pregnant with her third child.

Her other children were very excited about the new baby and we again dreamed of how our babies would grow up being great friends. Until our dreams were dashed when she miscarried.

This time, I would be the one remaining pregnant while she suffered the great loss.

My heart still breaks for the suffering of my friend and her family. I understood, all too well, what they were going through.

Father God, thank You for bringing this friend into my life. She is Your daughter and my precious sister. Father, she is suffering through this season of loss, please comfort her with Your great love.

Pour Your Spirit of Peace upon her. Open her eyes to see You and help her to focus on You and to set her heart on eternity. Father, heal her body and bless her with strength.

Lord, my friend needs Your grace to endure this loss. Help me to be a comforter to her and to walk with her through this season. Give me wisdom to speak life and love to this friend. Use me for Your glory and to bring my friend Your love.

Bless my friend with the desire of her heart. In the Mighty Name of Jesus, we pray. Amen.

Prayer is pertinent when a friend has experienced a miscarriage.
