Can God Help Me Find a Job
The short answer is: Yes. God can help you to find work that aligns with your career goals, desires, and skillset. I think of Daniel and Joseph who were both strangers in Babylon and Egypt, respectively. They were really good at interpreting dreams and discerning things.
These skills definitely helped them to get jobs working for the government and in some very influential positions too. I’d like to think that God was working in the background to ensure these men did not remain jobless although they were far away from home.
God will assist you to find a job. You just have to make sure you do your part by putting yourself out there. Present your best self on your resume and application letter. Seek God’s will for the next step. While you are doing that, hold these Bible truths and promises in your heart.
Bible Verses About Finding a Job
The Bible is filled with scripture to address every area of our lives. And that includes Bible verses about finding a job!
When we pray the Scriptures over our life, big things will happen!
As I said before, job hunting takes a lot of mental and emotional energy. But the good news is that the Word of God has many nuggets of encouragement for when you find yourself in such a situation. Here are a few Bible verses that you can draw some lessons to give you hope.
God knows that you are in need of a source of income to take care of the basic necessities of life. And we know that He is faithful to provide.
Pray these verses to simply thank God for the employment blessings to come:
But my God shall supply all your needs according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus. (Philippians 4:19, NIV)
So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own. (Matthew 6:31-34, NIV)
I was young and now I am old, yet I have never seen the righteous forsaken or their children begging bread. (Psalm 37:25, NIV)
The situation of being jobless is an uncomfortable one, but God is able to see the big picture and has set your life up with all the knowledge he has.
Meditate on God’s promises as you are praying over your employment situation.
For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. (Jeremiah 29:11, NIV)
And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. (Romans 8:28, NIV)
God’s will is the place to be above everything else. As you seek a job, submit your desires to God so that you can fulfill his purpose for your life, even through the new job you are desiring.
As you are praying over your employment struggles, use these scriptures to remind you to always keep God as the focal point.
Take delight in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the Lord; trust in him and he will do this. (Psalm 37: 4-5, NIV)
But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. (Matthew 6:33, NIV)
Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight. (Proverbs 3:5-6, NIV)
No matter how dim the job search situation looks, hold on to your faith in God because He is still faithful in the hard times.
God wants us to pray about everything in our lives. And that also means praying over our employment situations. Cry out to God and ask Him for what you are needing or wanting.
Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything. (James 1:2-4, NIV)
Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours. (Mark 11:24, NIV)
Don’t stop sending out applications. Unless God tells you to be still, keep moving forward. A prayer of faith must also be accompanied by action.
Our father Abraham offered his son Isaac on the altar. Wasn’t he considered to be right with God because of what he did? You see that his faith and his actions were working together, and his faith was made complete by what he did. (James 2:21-22, NIV)
Let your wait for your employment opportunities be full of patience, hope, and courage. God’s promises are true and sure.
Use these scriptures to remind you that God will provide in the way of an employment breakthrough!
I remain confident of this: I will see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living. Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord. (Psalm 27:13-14, NIV)
But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint. (Isaiah 40:3, NIV)
Prayers for Employment Breakthrough
In my own life, I have prayed for an employment breakthrough quite a few times. In one situation, I worked at a place I did not particularly enjoy. I loved my job but my soul was being drained by unkind coworkers.
Another time, I disliked my job and really needed to find satisfaction in it because I did not have many options at that point in my life. Then there was the time when I graduated but was jobless for months.
Yes, I needed to be patient and yes I got discouraged. But in all those situations, I kept praying and did my part. My breakthrough always came just when I needed it.
Employment Prayer for Job Seekers
When I was seeking a job, the hardest parts were choosing the right position to apply for and then preparing the application letter. I can’t tell you how many drafts of a single letter I have done.
And while I’m doing all that, I am overtaken with thoughts about whether or not things will go well if I actually get the job. Sounds like my mind was running away with me, right?
Prayer calms my mind. Here is an example of how I pray in such situations:
Lord, in your Word, you said I should ask for anything in your name and I will receive it. And so I am asking you for a job. I pray today that as I work on letters and resumes, you will help me to allow the Holy Spirit to lead me in choosing the jobs to apply for.
As I write my job letter, take charge of my thoughts and words so that I will express exactly what needs to be said to capture the attention of the right prospective employer that is in your will for me to work with. Please let it be that the job you are sending will align with my giftedness and the purpose for which you have called me.
I pray that this job will challenge me enough to make me grow but will not throw my life out of balance so much that I sacrifice other aspects of my life. May this job be both fulfilling and financially satisfying so that I will be able to pay more than just bills but I will be able to save as well.
Lord, your Word says before I call you would answer and while I am speaking you hear. I believe you know and understand my need for employment. As I pray today, I do so in faith. I actively wait in expectation. Let this job search become a testimony. Thank you for hearing and answering my prayer. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Employment Prayer for a Job Interview
Are you praying about an upcoming job interview?
Anxiety. That’s the first word that comes to my mind when I think of an interview of any kind. But it’s kind of even more nerve-wracking when you desperately need to be employed so you can pay your bills.
But don’t worry, God’s got your back. He has a way of making you so ready, your interview turns out so well you don’t even feel like you’re having an interview.
Here is an example of how you can pray for a job interview:
Lord, I thank you that I have gotten this far in the application process. I pray that you will help me prepare for my interview. When the disciples had to defend their faith, you empowered them and put your words in their mouths.
I pray you will do the same for me as I defend my professional competence for this position. I need your help to answer questions in this interview. You have blessed me with the skills and experiences to do this job. Now please help me to be able to discuss them well enough to represent who I am as an individual and as a professional.
Help that I will be my true self in the interview so they will meet the real me. Above all, I pray that I will represent you in my interaction with the interviewer. Let it be that they will sense the sweet, gentle presence of Jesus through me. Replace my fear with faith and my anxiety with peace.
And when it is over, help me to accept the outcome of the interview with grace, knowing that I have committed my way to you. Thank you for hearing and answering my prayer. Amen
Employment Prayer for a Job Offer
Have you recently applied for a job? Or maybe you’ve applied for a higher position within your own organization?
Or maybe you’ve been offered a new position and you aren’t sure if it is right for you.
Oftentimes, we are given opportunities that, although they may bring financial blessings, may not be in the best interest of our families – or our walk with God.
Here is an example prayer about a job offer:
God, thank you for the favor you are showering on me through this job offer. Your Word says that you will always answer our prayers for the outpouring of wisdom. I need your wisdom and discernment to make a good decision about this offer for employment.
My desire is to be in your will and to serve where you want me but also to ensure this job is a good fit for both me and my prospective employer. I pray that you show me all the advantages and disadvantages of this job. I ask that you will give me peace and confidence about this opportunity. May your will be done. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Employment Prayer for Getting a Job
The past couple of years have been really difficult for many people. So many have lost their jobs due to the pandemic and other reasons.
If you or someone you know has been impacted by this, the best thing you can do is pray about getting a new job to provide for your family.
God already knows your struggles. Pray to ask for His guidance and wisdom in your job-seeking efforts.
Here is an example of a prayer for getting a job:
Lord, I thank you that you are with me in all aspects of my life. I know that you are aware that I need a new job but you have said in your Word that I should ask for what I need. So today I am requesting your intervention in my professional life.
Please lead me as I look for open positions that I will be a good fit for. Help me to prepare my application documents with appeal and excellence. I pray that the right prospective employers will be drawn to my application. I claim courage, wisdom and peace for when I am shortlisted and chosen for an interview.
Be with the entire process of securing employment. Lord, I ask that you will lead me to a job that will cater to my financial needs, contribute to my professional growth, and fulfill my purpose. I pray in faith, accepting your promise that you will not withhold any good gift from me. Amen.
Employment Prayer for a Job Promotion
There is nothing wrong with being ambitious. In the parable of the talents, there was an expectation of expansion on what was given to the servants. I believe that God expects us to think big and desire big things.
Also, a job promotion comes with financial blessings that can help you in providing for your family.
God supports you in your desire for a promotion. Just be sure that you have been diligent in your current position and that you truly have something to offer in the position you are desiring.
Here is a sample prayer for a job promotion:
Lord, thank you for the blessing of a job. I confess that although I am grateful to be employed, I desire something more out of my job. I would really like to be promoted. I have done my very best in the position I currently serve. I feel a tug to serve at a higher level and make bigger contributions.
I must confess as well that the perks of promotion could be really beneficial for me and my family right now. I pray that you will put me in the minds of those who have the kind of influence it will take to get me this promotion, according to your will.
And if there is something more that I need to do so that I can be seen, I pray that you will give me the courage and the assertiveness to do just that. Lord, prepared for the blessing of more responsibility. Help me to be a good steward of the bigger blessing you will send my way. Thank you for hearing and answering my prayer. Amen.
