How to Pray Over Your Husband
Many women are familiar with the Proverbs 31 guide for being Godly wives. The chapter describes many attributes of a good wife, but it is summed up perfectly in Proverbs 31:12 NIV:
She brings him good, not harm, all the days of her life.
When a wife prays for her husband, she is literally asking God to bring him good in all areas of his life.
The Bible also tells us to pray without ceasing (1 Thessalonians 5:17). A wife who continually prays for her husband knows how powerful this act of love really is.
So, how does a wife pray over her husband? There are many things you can pray for him about but these are some of the more important ones you’ll want to include in your prayer time.
- Pray to thank God for for your husband.
- Pray for your husband to be the man God created him to be.
- Pray for your husband to have a heart for Jesus.
- Pray for your husband to be strong during the storms he faces.
- Pray for your husband to see his worth in Christ.
- Pray for your husband’s career.
- Pray for your husband when you face marriage struggles.

Pray to Thank God for Your Husband
When we begin our prayers with thanks, that is the highest form of praise we can give God for all the many blessings He provides to us.
A husband is one of life’s greatest blessings. And, as in all prayers, we should begin praying for him by simply thanking God for him.
Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. 1 Corinthians 13:4-7 ESV
Dear Heavenly Father, I thank You for the precious gift of my husband. Help me be a wife of noble character, who strives to bring him good all the days of my life. Help us be a couple who serve You and follow Your holy will.
Guide us and give us the courage and faith to go wherever you lead us as a couple. With much gratitude and thanksgiving. Amen.
Pray for Your Husband to Be the Man God Created Him to Be
Sometimes our Christian journey takes a back seat to career, raising children, or other worldly goals. When our husbands lose sight of God’s will and stop seeking the Kingdom, they no longer prioritize becoming the men God created them to be. We can pray for God to intervene.
Husbands, love your wives, and do not be harsh with them. Colossians 3:19 NIV
Dear Jesus, You showed us what living a life pleasing to God looks like through Your own earthly life. My husband has lost sight of the things that really matter. Worldly standards have become his priority. Open his ears to hear Your Word.
Open his heart to feel Your meaning. Help me be a wife that can show him the way through my good example. We need You. I ask all this in Your holy name. Amen.
Pray for Your Husband to Believe in Jesus
Did you marry someone who doesn’t necessarily believe in God? Maybe you came to know Jesus after you were married but your husband still has not.
This is actually quite common in many marriages today. Keep praying for your husband to welcome Jesus into his heart.
Or maybe your husband’s faith is slipping because of something that has happened. Pray for your husband’s faith and ask Got to continually show him the way back.
Wives, in the same way submit yourselves to your own husbands so that, if any of them do not believe the word, they may be won over without words by the behavior of their wives, when they see the purity and reverence of your lives. 1 Peter 3:1-2 NIV
Dear Heavenly Father, my heart is torn because my husband is a nonbeliever. Please, Holy Spirit, breathe Your truth into his heart. I know that with You all things are possible. Show Him the way to You.
Let Your Word ring true in his heart. Help him feel Your presence and Your love. I pray all this in the name of Your Son, my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Amen.
Pray for Your Husband to Be Strong During the Storms
When life throws a hard punch, we rely on God to help carry us through, but we also rely on the strength of our husband. When the weight of the world seems to be on his shoulders, pray for him.
Pray for your husband to remain strong and faithful when times are difficult and all hope seems lost. Pray that he always remembers that God always provides a way through the storm.
I can do all this through him who gives me strength. Philippians 4:13 NIV
Our Father, we need Your help to weather the storms of life. Help my husband carry his heavy load. Let him feel You by his side. Give him the strength and courage to stand tall and firm during the terrible and tragic times.
Let him trust that even when the world looks like it’s falling apart, it’s all part of Your perfect plan in ways we can’t comprehend. He needs You, Lord. I ask for your mercy on him in the name of my savior, Jesus Christ. Amen.
Pray for Your Husband to See His Worth
Sometimes even the strongest men get beaten down by life and start doubting their worth. We can pull them back up by showing our appreciation and gratitude, but also through prayer.
Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will. Romans 12:2 NIV
Lord, my husband is a good man and you know his worth, but he doesn’t. Please open his heart to understand that he is created in Your image and that anything that comes from You is good.
Therefore, he is good. Help me be the best wife I can be to acknowledge his worth and not take his everyday sacrifices and hard work for granted. I ask this in the name of Jesus. Amen.
Pray for Your Husband’s Career
A husband should be the provider for the home and family. His career is the way he is able to accomplish that task. The loss of a job can be devastating. Not just from an income standpoint, but also for his view of himself as the provider.
Pray for your husband’s career. Pray that he is presented with opportunities for growth and prosperity. Pray that he is able to balance work and family and that his career doesn’t become a tool for the enemy to use against your marriage.
Do you see someone skilled in their work? They will serve before kings; they will not serve before officials of low rank. Proverbs 22:29 NIV
Dear Heavenly Father, please lead my husband to a career that will support us financially and that glorifies You. Give him the perseverance and strength to work hard, overcome challenges, and to prioritize faith and family over financial gain. Help me be a supportive wife along this difficult journey. Show us the way. We need You. Amen.
Pray for Your Husband When Your Marriage is Struggling
Even the best marriages encounter challenges that strain the relationship at one point or another. But married couples took vows to stick it out through the tough times. When your husband is struggling to love you as he’s called to do, pray for him.
For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh. Ephesians 5:31 NIV
Dear Heavenly Father, we are struggling in our marriage. We need Your help to stay committed to each other when the world seems to be pushing us apart. I’m losing my husband to [name it – anger, lack of trust, alcohol/drugs, his job, another woman, a hobby, etc].
Help me become the loving wife I’m called to be and open his heart to find the love he once had for me. Guide us back to each other to become the spouses we took vows to be.
Show us the way to keep You in the center of our relationship so we can honor Your name with a kind and loving marriage. With You, it is possible. I ask this in the name of my Lord, Jesus. Amen.
Pray for Your Husband Every Single Day
Praying over your husband is a beautiful way to honor God and bless your marriage.
The truth is that your husband has a lot of responsibility as the leader of the home. And with that responsibility comes obstacles and stress.
Pray for your husband every single day. Pray to thank God for him. Pray to build him up. Pray for him just because.
Most importantly, pray for your husband when you know he is facing struggles. That includes struggles that cause strain on your marriage.
Focus on bringing him good, not harm, all the days of your life, and pray unceasingly. God has the rest covered.
And if you are not yet married, be sure to pray for your future husband!
