How can we pray to thank God for the gift of life?
There are so many things in life that it is easy to take for granted and often we don’t appreciate exactly what we have until we are in danger of losing it. The gift of life can be the most undervalued and unappreciated gift – until it comes under threat.
But thankfulness and gratitude are at the heart of our Christian faith, to acknowledge that all good gifts come from God is at the core of our relationship with Him.
A prayer to thank God for the gift of life is powerful, as it reminds us of His love, faithfulness, and goodness towards us at the most fundamental level.

How to Thank God for the Gift of Life
We were created in God’s image for a relationship with Him – that is who we are. Scripture tells us that God walked with Adam and Eve in the garden of Eden in the cool of the day.
This gives us a picture of a personal and intimate relationship between God and all His creation.
“The God who made the world and everything in it is the Lord of heaven and earth and does not live in temples built by human hands. And he is not served by human hands, as if he needed anything. Rather, he himself gives everyone life and breath and everything else.” Acts 17:24-25 NIV
This verse reminds us of the proper perspective, of God as Lord of Heaven and earth. When our life is founded on our relationship with God, thanksgiving flows from receiving His love through Jesus Christ.
A prayer for the gift of life, like all prayers deepens our relationship with God, as we spend time communicating with Him. It is a prayer to shower Him with praise and adoration simply for putting us here on earth.
- Pause – To thank God for the gift of life, we need to make some space and prioritize our time, to take a moment to be still before Him.
- Appreciate – When we take a moment to reflect on the privilege of our relationship with God, of who He is and all that He has done for us, we are overwhelmed with a sense of gratitude.
- Live! – When we know the love of God in our lives and appreciate His faithfulness to us, there comes a responsibility to live our lives to the full in a way that pleases God:
Thank you, Lord, that You alone are God. I acknowledge that You are Sovereign and that my life is a gift from You. Father God, I thank you, that every good and perfect gift comes from You, and I value and appreciate all that You give to me.
Thank you, Lord, for all Your good gifts. I thank you that you give love, power, and self-discipline to enable me to live my life to the full, for Your praise and glory. Amen!
How can we ever truly thank God for the gift of life that He has given us? By acknowledging who He is, and with thanksgiving live our lives to the full in appreciation of the gift that He has given us.
