Prayers of adoration are the best and most flattering way for us to praise God for all He is.
I remember sitting in her lap at her desk, the scent of her strong espresso filling up the room and her massive Bible laying open in front of us. These were precious moments from my childhood and I’m eternally grateful for her instruction.
This form of praying has stuck with me through adulthood and I’ve seen how prayers of adoration, in particular, have changed my heart over and over again as I’ve come before God in prayer.

What is a Prayer of Adoration?
Adoration means showing deep love and respect through our worship and praise. If you adore your husband or your child, it means that you love them deeply.
To shower a spouse with adoration could sound like this: “You are such a wonderful husband! I’m so blessed to be married to you. There is no one else in the world I’d rather be with than you.”
Or if you wanted to praise your child you might say, “You are so clever and kind, I love how you play with your little brother. You are the best big brother!”
If you think of your relationship with God in terms of relationship, it makes it easier to know how to communicate with Him. In the same way that you would praise a spouse, a child, or a close friend, you can praise God, too.
Of course, God is mightier, more perfect, more full of love than any single person we praise in this life – so there are lots of opportunities and reasons for us to praise Him!
Why Are Adoration Prayers Important?
There are tons of reasons why we should show gratitude to God and shower Him with prayers of praise and adoration. But two of these reasons really stick out:
God deserves our praise and adoration.
“Worthy are you, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power, for you created all things, and by your will they existed and were created.” Revelation 4:11 (ESV)
Our God is the King of kings and Lord of lords. He is worthy of ALL praise. He is the Creator of all that we know and see. I’ll say it again: He is worthy.
How do you feel when someone praises you? When they say something nice about you or lift you up? Many of us long for our spouses, friends, or children to notice our work for them and praise us for our efforts.
If we take note of our own desire for praise, it’s easy to see why we should praise God!
Showering God with adoration is good for us.
When we praise God, it takes our eyes off of our own selves and places them where they should be: on God.
In my sinful nature, I’m tempted to only praise God when I feel like it – when things are going well or when something exciting happens.
But God is worthy of adoration ALL of the time. He doesn’t stop being the Lord of lords and King of kings just because I’m having a bad day!
In fact, it’s on those days that praising God is extra helpful for me – because it reminds me of God’s power, His great love for me, His sovereignty and so much more.
When shower God with prayers of adoration, the things I’m praising Him for are precious reminders to me of His character and nature.

Prayers of Adoration
When my mom was teaching me how to pray, I was always in awe of how she found different things to praise God for! Even today I can find that difficult – I tend to praise Him for the same few things, or I just get kind of stuck thinking about myself.
Here are some topical prayers of praise for God to help us get “un-stuck” in our prayers of adoration.
Prayer of Adoration for All God Is
There are so many qualities about God that we can praise Him for – and as we learn more about God in His word and through life, we will find more and more things to praise Him about!
Father, I praise you because you are perfect and complete. There is nothing lacking in your nature. You are steadfast and do not change like the shifting winds. You are eternal – beyond the bounds of time – which is unfathomable to me!
I praise you for all that you are – the things I understand, and the things I have no comprehension of. God, you are worthy of my praise and I worship you with my heart, mind, soul, and strength. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Prayer of Adoration for The Creator
We live in an incredible world! God shows us His nature through what He has created and it is amazing.
For ever since the world was created, people have seen the earth and sky. Through everything God made, they can clearly see his invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature. So they have no excuse for not knowing God. Romans 1:20 (NLT)
This verse shows us that everything God has made points us to the Creator. Today, look around at the incredible things God has made and meditate on what those things reflect about God.
A note on this: too often we forget that we are fearfully and wonderfully made (Psalm 139:14). But when God made us, He said we are ‘very good!’ (Genesis 1:31) and this applies to you and me, too. Don’t let your own insecurities about your body keep you from praising the incredible God who made you!
Lord, I praise you for creating this beautiful world! The heavens declare your glory, every plant and flower exclaims your beauty, every bird and animal sings your praises. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Every cell in my body praises you, my wonderful Creator. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Prayer of Adoration for Jesus
The story of God sending Jesus to earth to die and resurrect for us is the most incredible rescue love story that’s ever been written – and it’s not fiction, it’s fact!
Jesus’ rescue mission is the most praiseworthy thing that anyone has ever done. Let’s praise Him for His humility, His amazing love, and His triumph over life and death in order to save us!
Lord, I praise you for sending your precious Son to this world so that we could know you intimately. I am amazed that you came to this world humbly as a child in a manger.
Jesus, I praise you for your perfect life that you lived in this world. You showed us what love really looks like, and you laid down your life for me. I praise you! I worship you, Lord, for your precious blood which cleanses my sins.
You triumphed over this life and ultimately against the power of death! Wow! I know you did all of this because of your love for me. I am in awe of you, Lord. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Prayers of Adoration for God’s Plans
Sometimes, we catch a glimpse of God’s plans and we are in awe. Other times, we can be frustrated, disappointed, or saddened by His plans.
Even when God’s plans don’t seem to be going according to our plan, He is still worthy of praise.
Father, your thoughts are truly higher than my thoughts and your ways are truly higher than my ways. I don’t always understand your plans, and I know I don’t see the whole picture, but I praise you because I know you are working everything for the good of those who love you.
I worship you, Lord, for you are sovereign over everything. You set up kings and you depose them and nothing is out of your control. In Jesus’ name, I pray, Amen.
There are endless reasons to shower God with our prayers of adoration! His Word, His creativity, His endless grace, His power and strength…and so much more!
I hope this inspires you to praise God with all of your heart, soul, mind, and strength. He is worthy of all the adoration we could ever give Him!
