Are you needing to pray for family unity?
Has your family ever been under spiritual attack? Do you ever seem to have miscommunication, strife, or arguments amongst yourselves?
Do you know what causes that?? A spirit of disunity.
Sometimes when we think of not being united as a family we think of the big things – marriage trouble, a wayward child, a tragic moment causing strife between one another.
But disunity is something that can be as “simple” as not connecting together, being on the same page, and things we do daily to not remain in one unified spirit.
When was the last time you sat down together as a family at dinner and had an actual conversation? No phones, no TV, not rushed and on the go?
I’m raising my hand here too! It can be tough in such a fast-paced world that we live in, but Satan wants to find us at these vulnerable moments because when he can start to break down the family, that is where the whole building will eventually crumble.
We cannot give him a foothold, friend!
I want to share with you WHY it is so important to remain unified as a family, and some prayers you and your loved ones can start praying today.
Whether your family is currently struggling or you want to prevent disunity, here are powerful prayers for family unity!
How Can We Pray for Family Unity
We know how important it is to be unified as a family and not let Satan have a place in our homes, but how can we start praying for that and what do we pray?
Praying individually is great, but praying these prayers together will not only strengthen your relationship with one another but with God as well.
Plus, it is an EXCELLENT way to start teaching your kids about God daily, because you are showing them how to pray.
Sometimes at night, when my husband and daughter are both asleep already (such a mom thing, right?) I will simply ask God, “Please place your hand of protection over our home tonight. Satan has no place here in JESUS name.”
I won’t lie, some of the time it’s out of just pure desperation and ungodly fear of the world. But God hears that prayer, and my heart and He comforts me because I know that He DOES hold us in His hand, and I am interceding on our family’s behalf even in those quiet moments.
Here are some other important prayer points for family unity you can hit to make sure you are creating a “circle of protection” around your home:
- Pray for unity in the home
- Pray for unity in wisdom
- Pray for family unity in communication
- Pray for family unity in love
- Pray for family unity in attitude
Now you have an idea on some things to start praying for when it comes to family unity, but what does the Bible say about it?
So now that we understand how important it is to be praying for family unity, let’s take a look at some scriptures that can encourage us and inspire us to do so.

Scriptures for Family Unity
Everything we do can be brought back to God’s Word because it is what breathes LIFE into us and our situations.
God is very clear in His word about how important family is, loving one another and making sure you are united because without that it’s so much easier for Satan to have a foothold.
Disunity is just a distraction from the bigger goal at stake here!
Working together is going to further His name and bring HIM the glory, which is the ultimate goal for all believers!
Plus, it is much easier to do so when you are in harmony with each other, not arguing amongst yourselves and missing the bigger picture.
With that, there are tons of verses about being unified that can apply to the family! Here are a few:
- I appeal to you, brothers and sisters, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree with one another in what you say and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be perfectly united in mind and thought. 1 Corinthians 1:10 NIV
- Finally, brothers and sisters, rejoice! Strive for full restoration, encourage one another, be of one mind, live in peace. And the God of love and peace will be with you. 2 Corinthians 13:11
- There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free, nor is there male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus. Galatians 3:28
- By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” John 13:35
- then make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and of one mind. Philippians 2:2
- Let us therefore make every effort to do what leads to peace and to mutual edification. Romans 14:19
- “Again, truly I tell you that if two of you on earth agree about anything they ask for, it will be done for them by my Father in heaven. For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them.” Matthew 18:19-20
- And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity. Colossians 3:14
- I in them and you in me—so that they may be brought to complete unity. Then the world will know that you sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me. John 17:23
- How good and pleasant it is when God’s people live together in unity! Psalm 133:1
Let these scriptures speak to you, pray them out loud as you read through them, and watch God work in the lives of you and your family!
Powerful Prayers for Family Unity
I hope you are encouraged after reading through those scriptures about family unity, and I want to give you some practical prayers you can pray as well.
Use these as a starting point, and then of course feel free to personalize them to fit the needs of your family. Remember, prayer is important and powerful, so pray with the expectation that the sovereign God of the universe hears you!
We’ll start with a general prayer for family unity and then break down some more topics such as morning prayers, prayers for healing, love, and reunification.
Father God, I lift up my family to you right now. Thank you for the wonderful blessing they are to me!! I ask that you would help to unify us as a family. I pray that you get rid of any spirit of disunity, and help us to have our ears and hearts open to one another, loving one another, and uplifting each other. Help us to submit to one another out of reverence for you, and that we place each other’s needs above our own, operating out of Your Holy Spirit. Keep Satan far away from our home and unify us now in Your name so that You may be glorified, Amen.
Morning Prayer for Family Unity
There’s no better time than the beginning of your day when you first open your eyes to start praying. You can pray in defense of disunity, that God will protect your family from it.
Here is a morning pray for family unity you can repeat each morning:
Father God, I lift up my family to you today. I pray against any scheme the devil may have to cause disunity in our home. I ask that you renew our minds that we may be in tune with your Holy Spirit throughout the day. Open the eyes of each of my family members to see you in and through everything today. Thank you in advance for protecting us and keeping us unified this day. Amen.
Healing Prayer for Family Unity
Sometimes, we need healing from situations in our family such as trust being broken, recovering from loss, or other situations.
Whether it is physical healing, spiritual or emotional, that healing needs to take place so that you can remain unified.
Here is a healing prayer for family unity:
Lord, you know we need you right now. We recognize that there is some healing that needs to happen in our family and it can only come from you. I pray for the physical/spiritual/emotional healing that needs to happen, and that You make a way that only You can. Prepare our hearts and keep us in one accord. I ask this in Jesus’ name, Amen.
Prayer for Family Unity and Love
What does God say about what happens when believers are united in love? Not just any love, but God’s perfect and holy love. We can look at what it says in Colossians 2:1-3 (NIV) and see!
In Paul’s letter to the church in this book, he prays they will be united in love so that they may have the “full riches of complete understanding” as well as the “treasures of wisdom and knowledge.”
Again, when we are in unity with one another, especially our families, we can tap into that wisdom and knowledge God has for us, and operate out of His love!
Here is a prayer for your family to be united in love:
Lord, what a blessing my family is to me. God, I love them so much, but I know You love them even more and You hold them in Your precious and mighty hand! I ask that we operate out of YOUR love, and keep us unified so that we may bring more glory to Your name. Rid our family of any disunity and keep us in one accord. We ask these things in Jesus’ name, Amen.
Prayer for Reunification of Family
Sometimes we experience things in our family where there is a need for reunification.
Nothing but the healing power of God almighty can bring about that reconciliation, and it is so important to pray for His Spirit to heal those hurts and bind your family together once again.
For those struggling with the reunification of your family, here is a prayer for you:
Father God, I come to you right now in great need. Lord, we need reunification in our family, and that can only come from You. Thank you in advance for the healing and unity you will bring to our family, and we ask that Your will be done in this situation. We know you desire for us to be of one accord and we pray that right now in Jesus’ name, Amen.
God wants us to take care of our family and not let Satan have a foothold into something that is so precious to us! Let’s not give him that, friend.
