Are you looking for some powerful prayers to pray for friendship?
True friends, the kind that encourages and inspires you to become the best version of yourself, are a gift from God. They are the ones that see when you are struggling and reach out to lift you up. They are the ones that celebrate your wins with you-free of jealousy and envy.
And they are the ones that know you better than anyone and aren’t afraid to tell you the hard truth when they see you are about to make a bad decision.
I believe that God places us on a path to meet and discover our dearest friends. I think they are there in our life to reach out to when we are hurt, scared, and uncertain. I think they are there to fill us up with love so that we can see what it looks like to love our neighbor as ourselves.

How Do I Pray for True Friends
I have been blessed with two great friendships that have spanned decades. As friends, we have had our fair share of disagreements, but we have always managed to find our way back to one another.
Finding a true friend is such a blessing. When my daughter was younger, I always stressed the importance of friendship because true friendship can help make the unbearable a little more bearable.
If you haven’t found your forever friend yet, I encourage you to pray to God to help open your eyes to opportunities to find and foster a friendship that can span decades for you. Prayers can be as simple as a conversation with Jesus or something more structured like the one below:
Jesus, please bless me with a friendship that is the perfect example of loving my neighbor as myself. Please open my eyes to where I can find such a friend, and when I find them, please help me encourage, inspire, and lift them up. Thank you, Jesus, for the gift of friendship. Amen.
Friendship Scriptures
I know God values friendship because it is spoken to many times in the Bible. But my favorite example of this comes from:
Luke 10:1 (NIV) After this, the Lord appointed seventy-two others and sent them two by two ahead of him to every town and place where he was about to go.
I love that the disciples didn’t have to go away alone. They had a loving, faithful friend by their side so they could bear all things. The importance of this is further illustrated in the following passage.
Ecclesiastes 4:9-10 (NIV) Two are better than one,
because they have a good return for their labor: If either of them falls down, one can help the other up. But pity anyone who falls and has no one to help them up.
Prayer Message for a Friend
There have been many times in my life when I’ve been having a hard time with something, and I’ll pray to God for the strength and comfort to get through it, and then I’ll get a text from a friend saying they were just checking in.
I believe this is God’s way of sending us comfort in the form of a friend that loves us and wants us to know that we are not alone.
I love that my friends reach out to me when they don’t even know I’m in need. That’s why whenever my mind thinks of them, I like to reach out to them to let them know I’m here.
Below is a simple prayer for friendship you can say to help you be the friend God created you to be:
Dear Lord, please help me be the friend you have been to me. Please let me find ways to let my friend know that I love them, root for them, and am here whenever they need me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Powerful Prayers for Friendships
True friendships tend to span a great many years. It’s likely that throughout those years, your friendship will encounter many different seasons of life. Some will be filled with joy, and others might be filled with sorrow. I have a few prayers to help you through those different stages of life with your friend.
Short Friendship Prayer
You will go through many busy seasons in your life. Those are the times you benefit from having a friend that doesn’t take it personally when you aren’t around as much.
In the busy seasons of your life, say a quick prayer to Jesus, thanking Him for blessing you with a true friend that understands when you aren’t around as much as you have been. A short friendship prayer could look like this:
Thank you, Jesus, for blessing me with a true friend. Thank you for the gift of her friendship. I look forward to meeting up with her when things aren’t so crazy busy! Amen.
Prayer for Friendship Healing
It’s only natural that at some point in your friendship, you might end up hurting your friend’s feelings. In these situations, it’s important to acknowledge the hurt you caused and ask for forgiveness.
A good starting point is to acknowledge that you understand the hurt you caused and explain how important their friendship is to you. Hopefully, they accept your apology, and you guys can work on gaining trust again.
A good healing prayer for friendship is the following:
Jesus, please forgive me for not being the best version of myself in my actions towards my friend. Please help me find a way to show my friend how important she is to me. Please humble my heart to admit that I was wrong and ask her for her forgiveness. Thank you for the gift of friendship. I love you. Amen.
Prayer for the Return of a Friendship
Maybe you had a falling out with a friend and haven’t talked in months or even years. I’ve been there. When you aren’t getting along with a loved one, it tends to consume your thoughts. I can remember how difficult that time was for me.
The good news is that in time, with true friends, you’ll work through it and likely come out with an even stronger friendship.
If you find yourself in that situation, you can turn to Jesus with this simple friendship prayer:
Jesus, please open my eyes to ways I can work to repair my friendship. Thank you for leading me to my friend, and thank you for showing me what grace and forgiveness look like so that I can demonstrate that in my words and actions with my friend. Thank you for your love and grace. Amen.
Prayer for Friendship and Fellowship
Have you ever found yourself in a new situation with people you don’t know? Maybe your kid is in a new sport, and you notice how close the other parents are with each other.
Maybe you move across the country and find yourself in a new church where you don’t know anyone.
It’s in those situations that you could use a friend. Someone that will help you not feel so alone.

Equally important is when someone new joins a group that you have friendships in. It’s in these moments that we can shine a light on the goodness of the Lord by imitating what He would do in that situation- how He would go about making them feel welcomed and loved.
I love asking for God’s take on a situation. That’s why a lot of my prayers start with asking Him to open my eyes to the way He sees the situation. A fellowship prayer might look something like this:
God, please open my eyes to how I can serve you when I notice someone new in a group of mine. Help me reach out and make them feel welcomed. Thank you for the gift of community so that I may offer my time and talents for the betterment of your Kingdom. Amen.
Prayers of Thanks for Friendship
God has blessed us with so many opportunities to live in fellowship with His people. I think Scripture speaks to the importance of friendship better than I ever could:
Hebrews 10:24-25 (NIV) And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.
There is so much to be thankful for when it comes to friendship—having someone that not only knows you but loves you enough to work through any disagreements you have. Take some time to thank God for your friends.
Prayers of gratitude and thanks to God are appropriate in all situations – including prayers of thanks for friendship!
Jesus, thank you for blessing me with my dearest friend. They are a source of love, acceptance, and encouragement. They inspire me to chase my dreams and try hard things. Thank you for blessing me with their friendship. Amen.
We were designed to live in community with others and have loving friends who can be there with and for us throughout the many ups and downs in our lives.
Use these prayers for friendship to thank God for the friends He has already placed in your life as well as to pray over their lives.
