Prayers for Protection Against Natural Disasters
As we listen to the news or see images across our devices, there are not only many disasters, there’s fighting among nations, and wars greatly impacting our world.
Whether it’s close to our home or across the ocean, prayers for protection against these natural disasters can change the landscape of any region.
Be strong, and let us fight bravely for our people and the cities of our God. The Lord will do what is good in his sight. 2 Samuel 10:12 NIV
Let’s pray to our Heavenly Father for protection and guidance as we see our family and/or friends through these scary times including not only the victims, but also for first responders, police officers, rescue workers, and relief volunteers.
Prayer for Anyone in Harm’s Way During a Natural Disaster
First and foremost, lives are the most important in any natural disaster. Let’s start with asking God to protect any and all lives through this critical time.
People and animals are impacted by the loss of life. Let’s pray that He spares not only humans but our furry friends and wild animals.
Dear Heavenly Father, our hearts are heavy for those standing in the trenches of devastation and potential loss of lives. Keep all of these precious people and even all creatures impacted by providing them with safety and security as you put your loving arms around them. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Prayer for the Safety of Those Evacuating Due to Natural Disaster
The decision to evacuate during an upcoming storm doesn’t come lightly. A storm could easily change course and do minimum damage.
However, on the other side, you’re faced with the potential of devastating consequences for staying, including the loss of life.
Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer. Romans 12:12 NIV
As the decision to evacuate comes clear, praying for the safety of those evacuating is the next step in caring for our loved one’s safe passage to refuge.
Dear Lord, we pray for our loved ones as they make the difficult decision to leave their homes. Please provide them with peace and comfort while granting them safe passage to their destination. Give them the provisions they need for their new journey. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Prayer for those Who Are Displaced by a Natural Disaster
If you have friends and/or family displaced due to a hurricane, flood, or unseen natural tragedy, they are in survival mode.
Displacement is when people are forced to leave as a result of a disaster in order to avoid the impact of a natural hazard.
For we know that if the earthly tent we live in is destroyed, we have a building from God, an eternal house in heaven, not built by human hands. 2 Corinthians 5:1 NIV
Many of us cannot relate to this trial in life and prayers are much needed for those struggling without the comforts of home.
Dear God, we ask special blessings upon those who are displaced from their home and are struggling with making sense of their situation. Send them food, provisions, and most importantly, your love as they go through this trial. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Prayer for Rescue Workers After a Natural Disaster
Now that we’ve covered family, friends, and loved ones, let’s not forget those who sacrifice their own well-being to rescue those in need.
In my distress I called to the Lord; I cried to my God for help. From his temple he heard my voice; my cry came before him, into his ears. Psalm 18:6 NIV
Rescue workers save people from dangerous or difficult situations, usually following an accident or a disaster. They are usually walking into poor conditions of their own volition and need a ton of prayers to give them courage and direction.
Dear Lord, guide our rescue workers’ minds, hands, and feet in the right direction as you lead them to heal, restore, and comfort those in need during this difficult disaster in their lives. Give them the courage to face these difficult situations. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Prayer for Relief Workers After a Natural Disaster
Many relief workers are voluntary and do not get paid for their sacrifice and dedication to helping others in disaster areas.
Praying for relief workers is a great way to cover everyone involved in natural disasters. You may have a loved one who volunteers their time to rescue others.
Have mercy on me, my God, have mercy on me, for in you I take refuge. I will take refuge in the shadow of your wings until the disaster has passed. Psalm 57:1 NIV
Let’s pray for God’s ultimate protection and guidance as they provide relief to victims of these devastating storms.
Dear Father, we come before you and ask to protect our relief workers as they run towards scary situations and difficult environments. Keep them safe, protect their bodies, give them comfort, and lead them to those who need them the most. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Prayer of Restoration After a Natural Disaster
Once a flood or hurricane plows through and the destruction settles, there is a ton of work left to do.
While we are grateful for lives that have been saved, we must not forget the new world they now live in after a natural disaster.
Have no fear of sudden disaster or of the ruin that overtakes the wicked, for the Lord will be at your side and will keep your foot from being snared. Proverbs 3:25-26 NIV
Let’s say a prayer of restoration as those affected by these tragedies begin to rebuild their homes and communities.
Dear Lord, we are seeking your face as we pray for those beginning to rebuild their lives. Give them the guidance and direction they need from start to finish with complete faith you will take care of them. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Whether you are going through the stress of storms or floods in your area, remember that the Lord is with you and He will see you through these difficult challenges.
Trust in Him and He will guide you in the right direction when you seek His will. Keep Him close to your heart, and always pray for everyone impacted by devastation and loss.
Prayer is always the best way you can help others, it is the most loving action you can do to help others in a spiritual sense.
And, don’t forget to keep your loved ones on your prayer list as they go through each stage of rebuilding.
