I pray for my husband every day, but there’s something special about birthdays that make me want to pray for him even more – just like I do with my kids.
It may go back to growing up when we’d pray at church for missionaries on their birthdays. Either way, I can’t think of a better time or way to appreciate the blessing of my husband’s life.
Unlike with my children, my birthday prayers for my husband aren’t something I do with him. They are more private between God and me as a way to minister to my husband “behind the scenes.”
But you can certainly share some or all of them with your husband if you’d like. These prayers are a great way to focus on your husband and what he needs.

Birthday Prayers for My Husband
There are so many ways to pray for my husband on his birthday!
For me, the best way I’ve found to organize specific prayers is by subject matter. I sit down and think about what areas or topics I want to cover in my prayers.
You can start these prayers on your husband’s birthday and continue them throughout the month or start them at the beginning of his birthday month. Just find what works best for you!
Birthday Prayer for My Husband at Work
Most adults spend more time at work than anywhere else. I’m blessed that my husband and I share a home office together doing two different jobs, so I get to see his work up close.
That often gives me insight into how to pray for him specifically.
However, I want to be sure that I’m covering him in prayer at work in general. This prayer reflects that.
Heavenly Father, I ask that you be with my husband in his work. Open and close the right doors according to your will.
Give him wisdom, discernment, and tenacity to make the right decisions for himself and his company.
Place him in the positions that are best for him, our family, and your will for his life. In Jesus’ name, I pray, Amen.
Birthday Prayer for My Husband as a Father
One of the most important jobs my husband has is as a father to our children. Parenthood is tough and exasperating at times. He needs my support in prayer for him as a father.
Ephesians 6:4 describes a good father in this way: “Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger by the way you treat them. Rather, bring them up with the discipline and instruction that comes from the Lord.” (NLT)
And that’s the kind of birthday prayer for my husband that I want to pray. Having patience and wisdom from God is what he needs most as a dad.
Dear God, I ask that you be with my husband as a father. Lord, give him patience and guidance in how to treat our children.
Help him to know the best ways to discipline and teach them even on days he feels out of sorts. Encourage him and bless him as a father. In Jesus’ name, I pray, Amen.
Birthday Prayer for My Husband to Communicate
Communication is so important in every relationship: marriage, parenting, work, and with God. Sometimes men can have trouble with communication and sharing their feelings. (We all struggle sometimes!)
So, praying for my husband to communicate his needs and feelings well is important. Doing so will help him grow spiritually as well as feel better mentally and emotionally.
Heavenly Father, please be with my husband and help him to identify and be able to talk about his feelings.
Be with him as he works through the various feelings he has and give him the courage to share those feelings with you and with me.
Lord, I ask that you help us understand each other even better as we grow together in our marriage and in you. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Birthday Prayer for My Husband in Family Relationships
Even good family relationships are complex. We have such a variety of emotions that can come up as we think about parents, siblings, and beyond. This is true for our husbands as well.
As such, the next birthday prayer for my husband revolves around his relationships with his extended family outside of our children and me. Our husbands can always use prayers to help them navigate those relationships.
Dear God, I lift up to you my husband, and the relationships he has with his family. You know each situation and circumstance.
You know the hard feelings and the good ones. Give my husband the right words and actions to honor you in his relationships with them. In Jesus’ name, I pray, Amen.
Birthday Prayer for My Husband to Find Godly Friends
Along with extended family members, friends play an important role in our lives. Praying for our husbands in their current friendships or in seeking new friendships is a good idea.
God knows friends are impactful on our lives. Pray that God
Proverbs 12:26 NIV says, “The righteous choose their friends carefully, but the way of the wicked leads them astray.”
We want our husbands to have the right friends that will uplift and encourage them in their walk with God.
Heavenly Father, I ask that you be with my husband’s friendships. Lead him to the right people and help him to grow in friendship with them.
Don’t let him be led astray by the wrong friends. Surround him with good, Godly influences who can encourage him in his relationship with you. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Birthday Prayer for My Husband for the Next Year
Each birthday marks a new year, regardless of when it takes place calendar-wise. Birthdays are a good time to look forward to what is to come before the next one.
We can pray and claim God’s promises over our husband’s coming year.
My favorite Bible verse for this is Jeremiah 29:11, which says, “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” (NIV)
Use this birthday prayer to pray over your husband for the year to come.
Dear God, watch over and protect my husband in every way in this next year of his life.
I pray that you prosper him, give him hope and fulfill the plans you have in his life for this year. Help him to be open to you and follow your lead. In Jesus’ name, I pray, Amen.
Birthday Prayer of Praise for My Husband for the Previous Year
Birthdays are also a good time to look back over what’s happened during the previous year.
It reminds you of all the things you appreciate him for.
We should take time to praise God for His provision and presence in the previous year of our husbands’ lives.
Even if the year has been one of struggle, God has been right there every single moment. He has been working all along the way. And for that, we are grateful.
Heavenly Father, thank you for this past year with my husband. Thank you for protecting him, covering him with your grace, loving him, and strengthening him.
I thank you and praise you for his life and the blessing he is to me and to our family. Thank you for creating him to be the man he is. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Birthday Prayer for My Husband’s Relationship with God
One of the most significant prayers we can pray for our husbands is for their relationship with God.
A good relationship with God is the foundation of everything from other relationships to dealing with hard times to celebrating victory.
“Come near to God and he will come near to you.” – James 4:8a (NIV)
James reminds us of God’s desire to be with us. And that’s something I want for my husband.
I can just picture my husband taking a small step toward God in his daily faith walk and God running toward him to meet him.
Dear God, I lift up my husband and his relationship with you. Lord, give him the desire to grow in you and to draw near to you.
Your Word tells us you will draw near to him if he does so, and I ask you to do that.
Pursue my husband and his heart. Guide him according to your will and plan for his life. In Jesus’ name, I pray, Amen.
Birthday Prayer for My Husband and His Dreams
As adults, it can be easy to stop dreaming. We get waylaid by the stress and everyday tasks of life. But we all have a God-given dream and purpose.
Sometimes we need inspiration and encouragement to keep going with that dream.
One of my birthday prayers for my husband is for him to know and follow his God-given dream. Doing so will make him happier and more content.

Heavenly Father, please help my husband to know what dream and plan you have for his life. Give him wisdom and encourage him to move forward according to that plan.
Help me to encourage and support him along the way and share in his dream with him. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Birthday Prayer for My Husband’s Health
Throughout our 23 years of marriage, my husband and I have dealt with a variety of health issues for each of us. One thing we’ve learned through it all is that God is there every step of the way.
“Dear friend, I pray that you may enjoy good health and that all may go well with you, even as your soul is getting along well.” 3 John 1:2 (NIV)
While I do pray for good health for my husband, I also trust that no matter what the next year of his life brings, God is good and is always with us.
Dear God, I lift up my husband and his health to you.
Lord, I ask that you meet his needs and take care of him. Keep him healthy in every way: mentally, physically, emotionally, and spiritually. In Jesus’ name, I pray, Amen.
The Power of Praying for Your Husband
While these aren’t the only payers you should pray for your husband, they’re a great start. And his birthday is an excellent time for you to focus on specific ways to pray for your husband outside of your usual prayers for him.
God tells us to pray no matter what is going on like in James 5:13, “Is anyone among you in trouble? Let them pray. Is anyone happy? Let them sing songs of praise.” (NIV)
Just like our marriage is for good times and bad, so is our relationship with God.
Having specific birthday prayers for my husband can help keep me on track with doing just that – and it can you, too!
